HP Looks to new CEO, Hurd, to Recommend Changes

Bond In Investing Stock March 30, 2005 (AXcess News) San Francisco - News sources were at odds Wednesday as to the direction Hewlett Packard's (NYSE: HPQ) new CEO, Mark Hurd, would take the company after Fiorina's departure.Patricia Dunn, the HP director that headed the committee to search for a new chief executive officer to replace Carly Fiorina who was ousted in early February, told the Associated Press that Hurd would be asked to review breaking up HP and improve its financial performance.The Wall Street Journal and New York Times both reported that the board of directors of HP wanted Hurd to keep the company going in the same direction his predecessor Carly Fiorina had developed, which was a stark contrast to AP's story quoting Dunn, who had commented in a 20-minute telephone dialog with analysts Wednesday about the direction of HP and Hurd's role.

Bond Terms Trading Hurd, 48, was president and ceo of NCR. He assumes the position as chief executive officer of HP next week. He had been with NCR in Dayton Ohio for 25 years.HP's directors had voted unanimously to hire Mark Hurd for the chief executive officer's position.During the conference call, Hurd refused to comment on what direction he would recommend to the board of directors of HP to take the company, split it up or keeping it whole, but said instead, that he would spend several months familiarizing himself with operations before coming to any decision.

Bond Debt High In Inside Hewlett Packard's stock was up 14 cents by 3:00pm ET Wednesday at $21.92. Shares of HPQ had bolted over 11% Tuesday when the news of Hurd's hiring was first released.
