Game to Movie and Movie to Game: The Formula

Game to Movie and Movie to Game: The Formula

Bond In Investing Savings Its a common misconception, all movie-based games and game-based movies dont completely suck. While there were game-based movies previous to the Super Mario Brothers movie, its the one movie that really sticks in peoples heads. Back in 1993, Miramax Home Entertainment released the Super Mario Brothers movie, a $42 million dollar budget movie. However, game fans all around did not receive it well. The movie was absolutely nothing like the game, other than the fact it had the characters. By the end of its time in theaters, it had only grossed $20 million dollars, about half of what it cost to make it. While many people liked it, many people regarded the movie as trash and a complete upset. The movies failure was most likely due to it not being similar the game.

Bond Investment Toledo Toledo Not being similar to the game can cost movie companies a lot of money in financial losses. However, if you make a movie based on a video game, and make it similar to the game itself, it will succeed. Such an example happened back in 1995, when New Line Cinema released the highly acclaimed Mortal Kombat movie. With Ed Boon and John Tobias, the creators or Mortal Kombat, working hand-in-hand with director Paul W.S. Anderson, and with a budget of $20 million dollars, they created the Mortal Kombat movie. Mortal Kombat received great praise for its ability to keep true to the game, and overall made a total of $70 million dollars in box office sales. However, when Ed Boon and John Tobias worked with director John R. Leonetti on their $30 million dollar follow up their formula failed. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation wasnt half as good as its predecessor, and only received $35 million dollars in box office sales.

James Bond Trading Card While there are many other video game movies out there, a few others stand prevalent in the world of gamers. Two such movies are Street Fighter and Double Dragon. I was unable to get the budget for these two movies, but I was able to get a hold of how much they grosses in movie sales. Street Fighter grosses a total of about $33 million dollars, which is probably around $10 million dollars more than it cost to make it. However, Double Dragon wasnt so fortunate, grossing in only $2 million dollars in box office sales.

Bond In Investing Stock But failure doesnt stop movie companies from turning games into movies. In the summer of 2001, two more video game movies were added to the collection of games turned into movies. First off is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. With an all star cast for voice acting, very impressive computer generated graphics, and a budget of $137 million dollars, the Final Fantasy movie that fans had been waiting for was released. However, once again the move from video game system to the big screen was a complete flop. With possibly the greatest failure in game to movie history, the Final Fantasy movie only brought in a gross of $32 million dollars. It seemed that once again fans were displeased by the fact that the movie had nothing to do with any of the games. The other summer release in 2001 was Paramounts Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Starring Angelina Jolie as the bold and alluring Lara Croft, Paramount Pictures had a hit on their hands. With a budget of $80 million dollars, Tomb Raider grosses in a total $131 million dollars, making it and instant box office hit. It seemed once again a movie company had succeeded in create a video game based movie that pleased the gamers.

Whether it's gaming, ray movies, music or online services, PlayStation 3 will change your digital life.

Municipal Bonds Investment But the glory of having a good game to movie wouldnt last long. In 2002, Screen Gems released the R-rated flick Resident Evil. Resident Evil, which is loosely based on the game by Capcom, was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. If that name sounds familiar, it is. Paul W.S. Anderson was the same guy who directed the highly popular Mortal Kombat movie, as stated above in this editorial. However, this time he would not be so lucky as to have a hit on his hands. While most Resident Evil fans enjoyed the movie, even though it was nothing like the game, the remaining movie crowd regarded it as another zombie flick and game to movie flop. With a budget of $35 million dollars, Resident Evil was only able to gain $39 million dollars in total box office cash.

by GameHawk999 Any loyal player of this game are going to be turned off by the movie changing agent 47's character to make it more streamline. The draw on the original character was that he was a stone cold killer that went for money or vengence. -- about his emotions will ruin the movie for true fans that are crutial to the sucess of the movie. This will be like the Resident Evil movies where the director choices different snipits from the game and throwing them together with no care about any attempt to stay with any storyline of any of the games. Don't get me wrong, I love the Hitman series but see this storyline as a let down and I don't want to see another killer game run through the muck of hollywood's vision of video games. I beg a game publisher like Capcom to make their own movies and save us from these bad versions of games we love.

Bond Terms Trading Even though Resident Evil didnt do well in theaters, Paul W.S. Anderson is already working on the sequel, currently titled Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Along with that, this summer we will see the released of the sequel to the Tomb Raider movie, entitled Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. As this editorial may show, the games that succeeded as movies followed the simple formula. This formula is that the gaming society wants the movie to be like the game. They dont want characters changed, plots ruined, and what made that game great destroyed. This simple formula, when if followed, will lead to success in the move from game to movie. However, does this simple formula work when it is a movie that is being turned into a game?

Bond Debt High In Inside Yes, I feel to some extent it does. While many movies were turned into games back in the days of the SNES and the NES, the N64 is where the real movement began. In 1997, Rareware created what is still arguably the best game based on a movie ever made. By now you all know what game Im talking about, and if you dont, the game is Goldeneye. Based on the 1995 James Bond movie Goldeneye, players assume the role of none other than James Bond himself. With around 20 levels of intense first-person shooting action, Goldeneye was and still is one of the greatest first-person shooting games ever made, not to mention that it was based on a movie. Rareware was smart, and followed the simple formula, in which they made the game similar to the movie. While some levels in Goldeneye never occurred in the movie, gamers that were fans off the movie didnt really care. The entire game was filled with action that compared to no other during that time. Gamers were finally given the chance to play as the suave James Bond.

Bond Greenville Greenville James Bonds next outing in the game world wasnt as successful. Maybe it was because it was in third person, maybe it was because it was for the Playstation, or maybe it was because it wasnt made by Rareware. While the game stuck pretty well to Tomorrow Never Dies, the game just didnt offer what Goldeneye did. Gameplay was shoddy, graphics were choppy, artificial intelligence was pathetic, and the game even crashed at certain points. In this case, the simple formula failed. While Tomorrow Never Dies followed the storyline of movie pretty good, the game itself stunk. Electronic Arts took their second shot at the Bond franchise with The World is Not Enough. Released in 2000, one year after the released of the movie, The World is Not Enough did fairly well. It may not have lived up to Goldeneye, but it surely beat Tomorrow Never Dies. The game itself took many elements in Goldeneye and tried to improve on them. However, the only good thing that really came out of TWINE is the ability to add AI Bots to your multiplayer. The storyline of the game seemed too far off of the movie, and added many levels that never happened in the movie. An example is the boat chase level. In the movie, Bond chases a bad guy on a boat; while in the game he must chase her on foot. They simply could have let the player have a boat chase level, but instead the opted for something less enticing and fun. But this would definitely not be the end of movie based games.

Trading Stock And Bonds With a next generation of consoles comes a new generation of movie based games. While Electronic Arts decided to stray away from making Bond games based on movies, they did however take over the role of making games based on the Lord of the Rings movies. After the Fellowship of the Ring failed as a game, EA took over the job of turning The Two Towers into a game that would live up to fans of the books and movies expectations. Released the same year as the movie, and starring the same cast of the movie, it seemed that The Two Towers was a success. It got fairly good reviews from websites and magazines. Two of my friends, being fans of the books and the movies, bought The Two Towers game. They both agreed, saying that they felt that it offered the experience they wanted from a Lord of the Rings game. Not all games share that praise however.

Bond Investing Municipal While The Two Towers received praise from most gamers and websites, the last game in this editorial only received praise from one of those groups. If you havent already guessed, Im talking about the highly anticipated Enter the Matrix. Following the story of two supporting characters in The Matrix Reloaded, Enter the Matrix is practically a movie on its own. With over an hour of actual movie footage, Enter the Matrix allows players to battle alongside the cast of the original motion picture in their quest to save Zion from destruction. Enter the Matrix; however, received horrible reviews from website and magazines. Getting scores as low as 5 out of 10, it seemed that Enter the Matrix was doomed to be another failure in the movie to game genre. This was proven wrong when the sales for the game were shown. Fans of The Matrix couldnt keep their hands of the game. Selling over 2.5 million copies in less than a month, it seemed that Enter the Matrix was a success after all. The game still remains number one on the top video game rentals chart. The game was a hit, and it didnt even have to follow the simple formula.

Basis Bond Finance Hill When create movie based games and game based movies, the simple formula usually helps create success. When making a game based on a movie, make the game similar to the movie, and give the player the ability to experience the movie firsthand. If movie companies want to succeed in making a movie based on a game, they should make the movie parallel to the game. While not all movie-games and game-movies use this formula to succeed, the majority of them do. With upcoming Metroid and Eternal Darkness movies announced, and games such as The Return of the King being made, we can only hope that someone out there in the world has read this editorial, so that for once gamers and movie fans alike will be happy by the time and money spent by the creators of these games and movies.
