Westell and BT Enhance DSL
Solutions for Enterprise Customers'
Networks
Westell's Customized Broadband Solution Gives British Telecom
Global Services a Next-Level Fault Tolerant Solution
AURORA,
Ill.--(
BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2004--
Bond In Investing Savings Westell Technologies, Inc., (NASDQ:WSTL), an international
systems developer and manufacturer of high-speed broadband/DSL and
VoIP technology access products today announced that British
Telecom Global Services has selected the Westell ProLine(TM) dual
connect router as the DSL customer premises product for enterprise
customers requiring the highest level of fault tolerance. Westell
and BT engineers have collaborated to develop an optimized version
of Westell's standard DSL modem that meets the exacting broadband
requirements for BT Global Services' enterprise customers.
Westell's remotely manageable broadband routers, with their fault
tolerant operation and auto re-routing features, will assist BT in
providing a flexible and resilient DSL network offering. The
routers work by ensuring that there are two separate profiles
available to reach the required services. This contrasts with other
routers, limited to one user profile, which could lock customers
out of their configured services if that one connection cannot be
established. This gives BT the ability to offer customers enhanced
service availability, in conjunction with Service Level
Agreements.
For the enterprise user or managed service provider, XL is an ideal solution for secure, reliable, performance networking.
Bond Investment Toledo Toledo Bill Holloway, BT Line of Business Manager stated, "Many of our
customers use broadband technology to link to business critical
environments, including branch offices and even customer-operated
devices such as cash machines. Westell has demonstrated a
willingness to develop their products to meet specific BT
requirements, enabling BT to offer its customers broadband
solutions that provide greater benefit and resilience."
Nortel Networks and NTU have already demonstrated advanced services over the Wireless Mesh Network solution, including video streaming, Fi voice over IP (Internet Protocol) over while driving at speeds of 50 kilometers per hour. The joint program with NTU will continue to innovate, develop, test and enhance advanced services on the Wireless Mesh Network Solution.
James Bond Trading Card "Following the growth of DSL in the residential and SOHO arena,
the performance and cost benefits identified with DSL versus
traditional ISDN and PSTN technologies, are now being embraced by
enterprise level customers," said David McKeigue, Westell Ltd.
Managing Director. "With that, however, comes extra demands on
DSL-based services which we have been able to meet with the
addition of these specific Westell products. Partnering with BT
gives us both the opportunity to take advantage of DSL growth in
enterprise networks," he said.
BT has come a long way from its beginnings as the Electric Telegraph Company in 1846. Today BT is one of Europe%š largest communications companies, boasting over 20 million customers among its fixed line telephony, internet and other technology services. BT Mobile is a Virtual Network Operator (VNO). This means BT Mobile is the brand and BT run the business side of the service, while the network infrastructure is supplied and maintained by Vodafone.
Bond In Investing Stock Westell does provide other telecommunication convergence
products to BT, but this is the first of Westell's DSL modem and
router product range to be supplied. Westell's manageable ProLine
is one of a family of DSL modems and access devices for residential
and business use, that is suitable for broadband applications today
but also capable of delivering much higher ADSL2/2+ speeds when the
standard becomes commonplace.
