AirWave Wireless Selected to Manage Wi-Fi Networks at Ten
Leading Universities
Software Developer Emerges as Wireless Network Management
Leader in the Higher Education Marketplace
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2004--AirWave
Wireless, a leading wireless network management software developer,
today announced that ten of the nation's leading universities have
selected the AirWave Management Platform(TM) (AMP) software to
monitor, analyze, and configure their rapidly growing Wi-Fi
networks. The newly announced customers include Yale University,
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Indiana University,
Vanderbilt University, the University of Miami, Stanford University
Law School, the University of Oregon, University of California
Hastings College of the Law, California State University at
Monterey Bay, and the University of Dayton.
Universities are challenged with managing vast networks spanning
dozens of buildings and supporting thousands of users. AMP's
web-based management console and scalable architecture give
administrators full control over thousands of network devices
enabling a small existing staff to cost-effectively manage wireless
networks in distributed campus sites. AMP even allows
administrators to temporarily shut down the wireless network at
specified times, such as during final exams, when wireless access
is not desirable.
Bond In Investing Savings "Our university's reliance on the swift and accurate exchange of
information makes our wireless network a critical part of daily
campus life. Network downtime, dead zones and
security risks are
unacceptable," said Nasri Mukhar, Network Specialist for the
University of Miami. "With AirWave Wireless we ensure our
network performs optimally so that our students, staff and
faculty have the best user experience possible."
- Wireless routers are part of wireless networks and help to increase the productivity, security, efficient collaboration along with providing faster access to individuals and companies. mails with your colleague onsite as well as offsite.
- Wireless routers are also used in wifi phones. Wifi phones use wireless technology to transmit audio or voice messages. In certain cases, the wifi calls are free as the technology is using the Internet to transmit the call. Wifi phones are a hugely popular service these days, use services like Skype for making calls.
Bond Investment Toledo Toledo Like many large institutions, universities often have
heterogeneous, multi-vendor networks resulting from decentralized
departmental purchasing processes and lengthy deployment cycles.
AMP provides network administrators with a single point of
intelligent control from which to monitor, analyze and configure
these networks in real time, supporting Wi-Fi vendors such as
Avaya, Cisco, Colubris, Enterasys, HP ProCurve, Proxim, and
Symbol.
Short for "Wireless Fidelity", WiFi is a networking standard, which allows for wireless internet access and data downloading. frequency radio signals, and is only available when within range of a hotspot. WiFi technology is based on the 802.11 family of networking standards, and uses a radio frequency of 2.4 GHz. These technical specifications were developed by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), which is still responsible for certifying new WiFi hardware products as being compatible with the standard.
James Bond Trading Card In a network environment where thousands of users have full
access to the network and can easily connect unsecured Wi-Fi
devices, AMP provides universities unparalleled security through
the integrated RAPIDS rogue AP detection module that automatically
detects unauthorized access points via a combination of RF scanning
and "fingerprinting" over the wired network. The platform also
monitors each user and alerts IT staff if any user is consuming
disproportionately high bandwidth.
Fi ( fi, WiFi, Wifi, wifi), short for "Wireless Fidelity", is a set of product compatibility standards for wireless local area networks (WLAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. New standards beyond the 802.11 specifications, such as 802.16(WiMAX), are currently in the works and offer many enhancements, anywhere from longer range to greater transfer speeds. Fi was intended to be used for mobile devices and LANs, but is now often used for Internet access. enabled computer or personal digital assistant (PDA) to connect to the Internet when in proximity of an access point.
Bond In Investing Stock "Colleges and universities are among the earliest and most
aggressive adopters of wireless LAN technology, demonstrating the
need for managing some of the largest and most complex RF
networks," said AirWave CEO Gary Hegna. "AirWave's selection by
these leading institutions further demonstrates the importance of
wireless network management in order to deliver superior network
performance and flexibility while reducing support costs and
enforcing security policies."
New on the market are routers for wireless and phoneline networks. These routers act as both bridges and routers. If you have a wireless network, the router has antennas to manage data to and from the wireless network (the LAN) cable modem.
