Gran Canaria:Where to Stay

I stayed at the Hotel and Casino Santa Catalina in Las Palmas. It's the same hotel where the king of Spain stays when he visits the island, so I'll assume it's the nicest place in town. It's nice, but not overly luxurious. I don't think I'd stay there if I had boards to deal with. It has good restaurants, a good health club and is right in the thick of things in Las Palmas. It's about 20 minutes north of the airport and 30 minutes north of the sailing spots.

Bond In Investing Savings The other side of the island is a prime tourist destination for all of Europe. Playa del Ingles (English Beach) has literally thousands of hotel rooms, apartments, villas and cottages for rent. In addition, there are loads of restaurants, night clubs, entertainment facilities, street-side tourist shops, taxicabs, convenience stores and everything else that goes with a tourist town. It's like a combination of Coney Island, the Atlantic City boardwalk and Daytona Beach, with a Spanish accent. I don't recommend staying there unless you have kids who need to be entertained.

Bond Investment Toledo Toledo The happy medium is staying at Playa Del Aguila, where the SideShore Bungalows in conjunction with Surfcenter Dunkerbeck is located, or at Playa de Tarajalillo, where you'll find Club Mistral at Bahia Feliz. From what I could tell, these are the best places for a windsurfer to stay. They're convenient, in a good climate zone and seem safe and affordable. It would be tough to spend more than $100 a night on accommodations for two. In fact, $40 will get you a sweet 1.5-bedroom condo on the beach with a pool and daily maid service.

London, UK Landed with my girlfriend at Madrid airport without a clue where to stay and were recommended the Hotel Regente by airport information. When we arrived the staff were friendly and polite. The room was very modern, clean and had a great view down the Gran Via. For the price we paid it felt like an excellent deal. Staff were also very helpful organising taxis and holding our baggage during the afternoon before our late connection. We would stay again.
