Imperial Palace Pulls the Plug
Strip Resort Implements Full-Property Wireless Access
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 2004--The Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino continues its dedication to providing its guests with the best in service and amenities by becoming one of the first Strip hotels to incorporate wireless Internet service throughout the resort.
"The Internet is such an important part of society today, and the convenience of a wireless connection is just one more way we provide Five Star Friendly service to our customers," said Ed Crispell, general manager of the Imperial Palace.
The center-Strip resort contracted with Hotel Wireless, Inc., and its sister company Hotel Kiosks, Inc., to integrate wireless connectivity throughout the property. The company built a full-property wireless solution for the Imperial Palace, including complete Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) access and seven Internet access kiosks for guests without a laptop.
"The public is relying more and more on available Wi-Fi access for their laptops and PDAs while on vacation or business travel," said Gary Patrick, president of Hotel Wireless, Inc. "Business travelers and vacationers alike are no longer tied to the phone jacks in their rooms for Internet access."
The Imperial Palace is also providing business and convention visitors with high speed wireless Internet access with up to 20 megabytes of bandwidth and the ability to offer VPN and dedicated bandwidth services. This enables the Imperial Palace to offer high speed Internet on an Enterprise Network level with IT support.
According to Pyramid Research, based in Cambridge, Mass., the number of U.S. hotels offering Wi-Fi has exploded from 500 in 2002 to 1,000 in 2003. Overall, the number of Wi-Fi users is also rapidly growing, from 12 million globally in 2003 to an estimated 707 million in 2008.
