The Nature Conservancy, New Jersey Green Acres Program and other groups have committed funds.

The Nature Center is already planning birding walks on the tract. It is the Nature Center's only chance to get a large tract of land for its work since there is nothing else left. Ferrante is hoping the area will soon be greatly expanded. Inderwies said he already has a vision of a birding platform off Pittsburgh Avenue. Ferrante wants a nature trail through the tract.

Bond Business Investing Stock Charlotte Todd, who chairs the city's Environmental Commission, said the acquisition is necessary to ensure biodiversity in Cape May. Everybody knows there will be people, but will there be anything else?
