West Windsor Open Space Ordinance Approved

Bond In Investing Savings The township council recently approved a bond ordinance to acquire 38.8 acres of land on Etra Road, which it plans to use for either open space or farmland preservation.

The township council recently approved a bond ordinance to acquire 57 acres of land on Disbrow Hill Road for open space. The property is located near the intersection of Disbrow Hill Road and Etra Road, and is directly across from Etra Lake Park. Mayor Janice Mironov said the township has the funds for the purchase and is not borrowing any money. The property, which carries a price tag of $1.17 million, will be funded through a $585, 000 grant from the New Jersey Green Acres Program, a $186, 000 grant from Mercer County and $399, 000 from the East Windsor Township Open Space Fund.

Voters are being asked to create an open space, recreation and farmland preservation fund. The issue before voters is a proposed expansion of uses of already approved local open space dollars, to add farmland preservation, maintenance of open space, and paying off open space preservation debt. Residents are being asked to allow the township council to double the open space tax, which could raise a potential $248, 000 next year.

Municipal Bonds Investment Mayor Janice Mironov said the township has submitted an application for funding to the Mercer County Agricultural Development Board, but is not relinquishing the possibility of acquiring the property through state Green Acres grant money.

Bond Investing Municipal The township also plans to add 2 acres of land to its 57-acre land acquisition on Disbrow Hill Road for open space. Mironov said the 59-acre parcel will cost the township $22,000 less than what it would have spent just on the original 57 acres.

Basis Bond Finance Hill Mironov said the original purchase price for the property was increased by $14,000 to $1.15 million, but the deal for the additional 2 acres was structured in such a way that it granted the township additional grant money for the purchase. The township received an additional $6,675 in grant money from the county and an extra $29,250 in Green Acres money. (
